JOB DESCRIPTION: Park Patrol

EXEMPT: No

COMPENSATION CLASS: Seasonal

DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation

REPORTS TO: Recreation Supervisor

SUMMARY: Working under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, Park Patrol is responsible for monitoring and maintaining Lincolnwood parks. Park Patrol will be subject to evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Monitors Proesel Park and 12 satellite parks, identify potential issues, and enforce all park rules
  • Monitor tent and shelter rentals and ensure proper permits have been issued
  • Monitor fields and courts for proper usage
  • Enforce park rules and ordinances, including no dogs allowed in the parks
  • Address and resolve conflicts between user groups
  • Open and close park restrooms and shelter
  • Complete daily park reports
  • Complete weekly playground inspection report
  • Complete park incident reports and submit to Parks and Recreation office
  • Provide set up, break down, and support as needed for all Parks and Recreation events
  • Submit requests for work orders as necessary
  • Daily check-in and check-out with Lincolnwood Police Department
  • Drag and line softball and baseball fields for weekend games/practices
  • Prepare fields for private rentals
  • Serve as on-site softball league supervisor
  • Rake kickouts under swings and surface under playground equipment at park playgrounds
  • Collect trash and empty trash cans in park
  • Perform visual check of parks and playgrounds for maintenance needs
  • Restock park restrooms with toilet paper and hand towels
  • Clean park restrooms
  • Immediately report any vandalism to Lincolnwood Police Department and the Recreation Supervisor
  • Comply with all Village Policies, Protocols, and Procedures
  • Provide assistance, information, and direction to the general public
  • Perform other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
The wage range for this position is $18-$20 per hour. This position is seasonal and does not qualify for benefits.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient with email communication.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to compose and prepare reports and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITIES:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with children and adults
  • Ability to prioritize duties and complete tasks within allotted hours
  • Understanding of the principles, practices, and objectives of Parks and Recreation administration and recreation programming
  • Capacity to troubleshoot, problem solve, and use good judgment
  • Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously

  • Provide public protection from unsafe conditions and hazards resulting from municipal work operations
  • Participate in special safety activities, as designated, such as Safety Committees, Job Safety Analysis, special training, etc
